Dutch Navy sail-training ketch, URANIA


The new URANIA was built fours years ago (2003) to replace the 3 times Cutty Sark winner which had been built in 1928. The new URANIA trains future Dutch naval officers for the ROyal Dutch Naval Academy.


RARA AVIS


RARA AVIS is indeed a "rare bird", with Dutch origins, an interim Amercian owner, and now a vessel involved with "troubled youth in France," the RARA AVIS sails from Brest, and is a "global ecological explorer".


SPIRIT of BERMUDA




SPIRIT of BERMUDA is a intrinsic, regional rig, called a "Bermuda sloop" despite having 3 masts. She was built in 2006, and is new to the tall ships fleet.

German Navy sail-training barque, GORCH FOCK II

HMCS ORIOLE



The HMCS ORIOLE is the oldest serving commissioned ship in the Canadian Navy.

The 102' ketch was built in 1921, and homeports in Esquimail, British Columbia.

She was a participant in the 2005 tall ships challenge, and is expected to participate in the 2008 tall ships challenge in the Pacific Northwest. For details, go to: http://sailtraining.org.

tall ships slide-show, Jamestown, RI -- Philomenian Library

Thad Koza will make a slide-show presentation on the tall ships fleet that will visit Narragansett Bay, June 27th-July 1st. All 20 tall ships will be presented in slide-format talk, with documentation notes and anecdotal tales. The vessels to be presented include: the Brazilian clipper, CISNE BRANCO, the German sail-training barque GORCH FOCK II ( the sister-ship to the Coast Guard EAGLE), the PRIDE of BALTIMORE II, one of the twin brigantines of the Tall Ships Youth Trust (UK) the PRINCE WILLIAM, the Indian Navy's training vessel, TARANGINI, the schooners SPIRIT of MASSACHUSETTS, HARVEY GAMAGE, VIRGINIA, and the local favorite, PROVIDENCE, featured in "Pirates of the Caribbean II".

The program should last for an hour, and will be open to the public.

Swedish topsail schooner LADY ELLEN


The elegant LADY ELLEN, a topsail schooner based in Stockholm, Sweden will be one fo the 100 tall ships fleet to participate in the TSI festival in Stockholm, June 27th-30th, 2007.

Swedish schooner INGO

The wooden hulled, 3-masted schooner INGO was built in 1922. INGO is 124' 7" in over-all length, and she will be one of the 100 tall ships to gather in Stockholm in July 2007. INGO operates as a charter vessel along the Swedish coast in the Baltic Sea.
