new book on Maine Windjammer fleet.......

Came across a wonderful new book on the Maine Windjammer fleet, and lighthouses.

Entitled:

Windjammers, Lighthouses and Other Treasures of the Maine Coast, the photography of Frank M. Chilleni has been published by Down East Books.

schooner BOWDOIN from Maine


The BOWDOIN, from the Maine Maritime Academy, is a 100' LOA wooden-hulled schooner, built in 1921. The BOWDOIN was designed specifically for Artic exploration, and had made 26 voyages above the Arctic circle between 1921-54. Since then, she has been a Sailing School Vessel for the MMA.

Nov. 13th, 2007, 7-8:30 PM tall ships lecture

The Britannia Heritage Shipyard of Richmond, BC will sponsor a slide-show on the tall ships by Thad Koza on November 13th, 7:00 -- 8:30 PM. The talk will focus on the events and the fleet of tall ships that will visit BC in June-July 2008. That fleet will include the US Coast Guard sail-training barque, EAGLE.

The fog was so thick for HANSE Sail-- Rostock 2007, that you could drive barely drive through it !

The Spanish schooner, FAR BARCELONA, was originally built in Norway, over 100 years ago. Has been restored by a consotium of foundations, and schools under the direction of one man.

GLORIA arrives in Newport for tallships rhode island


The Colombian barque, GLORIA, arrived in Newport for Tall Ships Rhode Island, which starts ont he 26th.

ALso sailing into the harbor on Tuesday were the schooners: VIRGINIA, SPIRIT of MASSACHUSETTS, BLUENOSE II, and PRIDE of BALTIMORE !!.

Columbian barque GLORIA and schooner AMISTAD


Both GLORIA from Columbia and the schooner AMISTAD from CT could be seen in the east passage off Newport Rhode Island, as they arrived a couple of days early for Tall Ships Rhode Island.

AMISTAD was built in Mystic, CT, and homeports from New Haven, CT>
