The Colombian barque GLORIA will visit Tacoma, WA August 3-7th, 2008, and participate in the "Festival of Sail" in San Diego, August 20th-24th.

The PROVIDENCE is over 100 years old, and has been brought back to British Columbia from Denamrk by her owner and Captain, Peter-Thor Watson. Peter is hoping to sail her in the 2008 Pacific Coast Challenge, but needs some support from host ports.

Festival of Sail -- California 2008


There will be several "Festivals of Sail" in California during July//August//September 2008.

The following ports will host fleets of tall ships:

San Francisco -- July 23rd-28th, 2008

Oxnard -- Channel Islands -- August 7th-10th, 2008

Los Angeles -- August 13th-17th, 2008

San Diego -- August 20th-24th, 2008

Dana Point -- September 5-7th.

The ketch, THANE, based in Victoria, BC will be one of the tall ships assembling for the Vcitoria BC tall ships festival in June 2008.

Thane is 57' LOA, with a 15' beam, and a draft of 6' 6".

Preview: tall ships 2008 -- April 2008

Thad Koza will be making several presentation previews of the tall ships fleet that will visit California in 2008.

Visions of Past Grandeur -- Tall Ships coming Summer of 2008

For many who love the Sea, the image of a graceful tall-masted sailing vessel slicing the waves and throwing a massive bow wake sparks imagination of grandeur in days gone-by. Join us on April 17, for the California Yacht Club’s monthly Yachting Luncheon to experience first-hand a unique audio/visual presentation by internationally renowned author and photographer Thad Koza. With many an adventurous sea-mile in his wake, he will review the fleet of “Tall Ships” scheduled to visit California during the Summer of 2008.
In addition to previewing the some 20 vessels which comprise the Tall Ships fleet for this year, including the US Coast Guard barque EAGLE, the tall ship BOUNTY, and the replica of Christopher Columbus’s NIÑA, additional local Tall Ships: LADY WASHINGTON, HAWAIIAN CHIEFTAIN, and the LYNX will be visiting all of the ports.

Bring your calendar as the visitation schedules for San Francisco, Channel Islands, Los Angeles,
Dana Point, San Diego as well as contact information will be presented.
Special opportunities for young people to sail aboard several of the Tall Ships from port to port will be described in the presentation.
