Another Class has joined the fleet for the Falmouth//Funchall 500 race.

PRINCIPE PERFEITO is a 170' 3-masted schooner from Lisbon, Portugal.
Originally built as a "coaster" in Norway in 1949, she has been restored by her Captain, Rafale Silva, and serves as a charter//sail-training vessel.

Mary Crowley of Ocean Voyages in Sausalito California has announced that the 151' brigantine KAISEI will participate in all of ASTA's Pacific Coast Challenge ports in 2008, beginning in Victoria, BC, and ending in Dana Point California in September.

Visions of Past Grandeur -- Tall Ships coming Summer of 2008

For many who love the Sea, the image of a graceful tall-masted sailing vessel slicing the waves and throwing a massive bow wake sparks imagination of grandeur in days gone-by. Join us on April 17, for the California Yacht Club’s monthly Yachting Luncheon to experience first-hand a unique audio/visual presentation by internationally renowned author and photographer Thad Koza. With many an adventurous sea-mile in his wake, he will review the fleet of “Tall Ships” scheduled to visit California during the Summer of 2008.
In addition to previewing the some 20 vessels which comprise the Tall Ships fleet for this year, including the US Coast Guard barque EAGLE, the tall ship BOUNTY, and the replica of Christopher Columbus’s NIÑA, additional local Tall Ships: LADY WASHINGTON, HAWAIIAN CHIEFTAIN, and the LYNX will be visiting all of the ports.

Spanish schooner SANTA EULALIA

The Spanish schooner SANTA EULALIA was acquired in 2000 by the Mariitme Museum of Barcelona. Built in 1918, SANTA EULALIA is a fine example of the Spanish "pailebote" that worked the Mediterranean.

schooner BOWDOIN from Maine


The BOWDOIN, from the Maine Maritime Academy, is a 100' LOA wooden-hulled schooner, built in 1921. The BOWDOIN was designed specifically for Artic exploration, and had made 26 voyages above the Arctic circle between 1921-54. Since then, she has been a Sailing School Vessel for the MMA.

The Britannia Heritage Shipyard of Richmond, BC will sponsor a slide-show on the tall ships by Thad Koza on November 13th, 7:00 -- 8:30 PM. The talk will focus on the events and the fleet of tall ships that will visit BC in June-July 2008. That fleet will include the US Coast Guard sail-training barque, EAGLE.
